Past Perfect Tense – Penjelasan, Contoh Kalimat, Soal – Perfect Tense merupakan jenis tenses yang digunakan untuk menyatakan sesuatu yang baru diselesaikan di masa kini, di saat tertentu pada masa lalu, atau di saat tertentu di masa depan. Sebelumnya kita telah membahas mengenai Perfect Tense di masa kini, sekarang kita akan membahas tentang Perfect Tense di masa lalu. Berikut adalah penjelasan, contoh kalimat, dan soal Past Perfect Tense.
Pengertian dan Fungsi Past Perfect Tense
1) Past Perfect Tense adalah tense untuk menyatakan suatu aksi atau kejadian yang sudah dimulai di masa lalu dan telah atau baru selesai dikerjakan di waktu tertentu pada masa lalu.
Pola Kalimat:
(+) Subject + Had + Verb 3
(-)Subject + Had + not + Verb 3
(?)Had + Subject + Verb 3 + ?
Contoh Kalimat:
(+) They had finished their school project earlier.
(Mereka telah menyelesaikan proyek sekolah mereka lebih awal)
(-) His friend had not showed me his new collection of famous novels yet.
(Temannya belum menunjukkan kepada saya koleksi baru dari novel terkenalnya)
(?) Had your uncle come back to Indonesia and visited you?
(Apakah pamanmu telah kembali ke Indonesia dan mengunjungimu?)
2) Past Perfect Tense juga dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu aksi atau kejadian terjadi lebih dahulu dibandingkan pekerjaan atau kejadian yang lainnya.
Contoh Kalimat:
• When I arrived at the birthday party, Aiden had already gone home.
(Ketika saya sampai di pesta ulang tahun, Aiden telah pulang ke rumah)
• When my sister got home, she found that someone had broken into her house and had stolen her laptop.
(Ketika kakak saya pulang ke rumah, dia menemukan bahwa seseorang telah masuk ke rumahnya tanpa izin dan mencuri laptopnya)
• It was Dina’s first time in an airplane. She was very nervous because she hadn’t flown before.
(Ini adalah pertama kalinya Dina naik pesawat. Dia sangat gugup karena dia belum pernah terbang sebelumnya)
• George did not want to come to the cinema with us because he had already seen the film twice.
(George tidak mau pergi ke bioskop dengan kami karena dia telah melihat film tersebut dua kali)

Dhoni was not in when I phoned him. He was in Bandung. Dhoni tidak ada ketika saya menelponnya. Dia sedang berada di Bandung. Dhoni had just got home when I phone her. He had been in Bandung. Dhoni sudah pulang ke rumah ketika saya menelponnya. Dia berada di Bandung tetapi sudah kembali.
